Focusing on the principle that development is for all, the Department of Agriculture-Cordillera recognized the contributions of Filipino women in the development of the society.
With the theme “WE make change work for women” and the lined- up activities provided for by the Philippine Commission on Women, the Department of Agriculture together with its attached agencies, the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) and Burea
u of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), participated in the online activity #Bilangbabae I am a #Partnerforchange and the National Women’s Month Parade on March 8 from Convention Center to Melvin Jones Grand Stand.
Specifically, this year's celebration aims to inform and engage women as stakeholders of government programs and services to promote citizen-centric governance and make “change” a conscious effort to know, understand, and provide what citizens need. Also, to create and facilitate platforms to discuss good practices, gaps, challenges, and commitments in pursuing gender and development (GAD) – to strengthen implementation of the Magna Carta of Women; and lastly, inspire and empower women and girls to be agents of change – to contribute in promoting gender equality and the empowerment of all women.
DA-CAR also held its celebration via two-day back to back seminar on the Salient features of RA 6713 or the Code of Conduct of Ethical Procedures for Public Officials, RA 9262 or an act related to Violence Against Women, Civil Service Commission Resolution No. 01-0940 or the Administrative Disciplinary Rules on Sexual Harassment Cases where CSC Legal Officer Atty. Elenita Ugay served as resource person and Dr. Rolando F. Malafu serves as resource person on the Effective Stress Management Seminar. The activity was held on March 23-24, 2017.
Ugar challenges the women as she emphasized, "Even with numerous laws protecting your rigths, of our ignorance, will they be spoken and recognized? We cannot implement something we know nothing about."
Furthermore, the event was capped with a Stress Management Service rendered by the Benguet Technical School. The school with its 25 beauty care students and adviser provided six services which are hair and scalp treatment, facial cleansing, foot spa, manicure, pedicure and massage therapy that relieved almost 250 employees from their week-long fatigue.
Finally, the Department of Agriculture further aims to conduct similar activities to further increase the adherence of its stakeholders on women matters.//
