DA-CAR awards machineries to corn and cassava farmers in Kalinga
A 6.7 worth of corn and cassava tractors was turned over to two Farmer Associations and one unit to the Provincial Government of Kalinga last August 8, 2017 at the ROS Station, Rizal Kalinga through the Corn and Cassava Banner Program of the Department of Agriculture (DA-CAR).
One unit of corn tractor were awarded to Calaocan Farmer’s Association of Rizal, Kalinga and one cassava tractor to the Culao Farmer’s Association of Pinukpuk, Kalinga. One unit of corn tractor was also awarded to the Provincial Government of Kalinga for garnering most of the awards during the Regional Gawad Saka 2017 Awarding, Regional Organic Achiever Awardess and National Rice Achiever
The said event was spearheaded by the DA-CAR Regional Executive Director Lorenzo Caranguian and Assistant Corn Coordinator Jerry Banawa.
Regional Director Lorenzo Caranguian stressed to the beneficiaries they should take care of these machineries so that the tractors will last long. He also emphasized the importance of record keeping for the maintenance of the machineries.
Meanwhile, Rizal, Kalinga Acting Mayor Samuel Valdez said that this machineries will be a big help to the farmers of their municipality since they have wide areas intended for farming. They were thankful for this assistance.
“The corn tractor will be a great help to the farmers for easier and quicker farming as compared to the traditional way,” said Caloocan Farmers Association President Desiree Bartolome.
Before these machineries were turned-over to the beneficiaries, training was conducted to the members of the farmer association and also a testing was conducted to ensure that the farm machineries were working well.
The turn-over was a part of the programs and projects of the Corn and Cassava Program for the year 2017. //A. Canero
